We got another few small tweaks to the 7.2.5 PTR today, probably the head-scratchiest PTR change in a long time:

 

Windwalker Monk

  • Effect #1 Apply Aura: Modifies Damage/Healing Done
    Value:14% 19%

Talents (4)

  • Chi Burst
    Casting Chi Burst does not prevent avoiding attacks.
    Now available to all specs
  • Hit Combo   Each successive attack that triggers Combo Strikes in a row grants 2% increased damage, stacking up to 8 6 times.
  • Invoke Xuen, the White Tiger   Summons an effigy of Xuen, the White Tiger for 45 sec. Xuen attacks your primary target, and strikes 3 enemies within 10 yards every 1 sec with Tiger Lightning for (40% 30% of Attack power) Nature damage.
  • Rushing Jade Wind
    Summons a whirling tornado around you, causing [(9) * (69% of Attack power) * 9)] damage over 6 sec to enemies within 8 yards. Applies Mark of the Crane to up to 2 nearby targets.

 

 

But Why?

Going to make some assumptions here:

  • Hit Combo (nerf) – To make it less dominant over the other options in nearlly all situations, probably still going to be the go to all the time, specially with the RJW nerf in the last PTR patch. You want Blizzzard to make an attempt at talent diversity? You asked for it…
  • Windwalker Monk (buff) – to offset the Hit Combo nerf, without providing Windwalker any of the actual buff it so desperately needs.
  • Chi Burst (change?) – I guess this means you can dodge, who the f%$k knows
  • Invoke Xuen, the White Tiger (nerf) – so that Xuen doesn’t become to go to in all situations, I guess… 
  • Rushing Jade Wind (???)  – a coding change maybe? Brewmasters are getting Rushing Jade Wind  increased to 9s, so maybe thats coming down the pipleline? or maybe its just to make it easier to read? ::thinking::

 

 

What this means

Here are how single target DPS looks based on my character using my spreadsheet, NOT SIMS.

  • Current: 856,136
  • Previous PTR: 857,332 (+0.1%)
  • New PTR: 861,769 (+0.5%)

Obviously those numbers aren’t anything to write home about, and these are just rough numbers using my spreadsheet, not SimCraft which will be more accurate. Napkin math says its 0.8% more damage than previous PTR, so roughly thereabouts. Clearly, this is a grain of sand in the proverbial desert of ST buffs and changes that WW need to have a rosey outlook in Tomb. Just have to keep our finger’s crossed that more will be coming, although every day the situation looks less likely.

Honestly I’m not entirely sure what much of the point of these changes are, and its almost more insulting than helpful since, yet again, we have no idea what Blizzard is trying to do. Bonus Ideas:

These all came from Fusky on the PTR Feedback thread and I tested them through my spreadsheet: all traits except Concordance, 3213132 talents, my character’s stats, all other 7.2.5 changes, 100% Karma efficiency, 300s fight:

Tiger Palm cost reduced by 10 energy – 933,802 dps to 1,054,972 dps (13%) – Obviously may be a little much, but pretty balanced in regards to providing around 13% to both single target and AOE.

RSK base CD reduced to 8 sec – 933,802 dps to 940,943 dps (0.7%) – Single target only buff, relatively small, and increases the spec’s downtime by almost 5%, which I love, but others may not.

FoF base CD reduced to 20 sec – 933,802 dps to 966,180 dps (3.4%) – This buff would also be reflected in AOE, so probably not what they’re going for, but a decent buff.

SotWL and ToD CDs now reduced by haste – 933,802 dps to 942,218 dps (0.9%) – Small buff, but depends on the length of the fight, the best part of this is that it increases the strength of haste making it much more useful.

Combo Breaker now increases BoK damage by 300% – 933,802 dps to 1,013,484 dps (8.5%) – Actually a really good change that would make a mechanic that is nearly always a nuisance into a real asset.

Trait: Light on your feet now increases the windwalking aura range by 5 yards per point instead of increasing dodge – I love it, like really really love it. Its DPS neutral, but just a fun utility change that really wouldn’t break the game.

Trait: Deathart now reduces the cooldown on touch of death by 10 sec per point. – 933,802 dps to 946,507 dps (1.3%) – Certainly a reasonable buff, depending on the fight time, and would make this trait much more desirable and less prone to bugs.
