With this week’s major build (build 24271) marked as a release candidate, it’s safe to assume that all the changes in the current build will be pushed to Live. Below, all those changes will be highlighted, as well as proposed changes to playstyle, some math, talks of a newer spreadsheet with 2 months of updates implemented, among whatever else is relevant for Mistweavers going into 7.2.5 and Tomb of Sargeras.

With all of the ability changes, there are a few key changes to Mistweaver healing going from 7.2 to 7.2.5.

Basic Healing Changes

There are a couple of changes to adjust to with Essence Font moving to a cooldown. However, I want to show a graph for Secondary Stat scaling for Mistweavers:

This graph shows how much Spell power each secondary stats provides to a given spell’s total Spell power. In the case of Mana Tea, it follows the new “rotation” (since we can no longer spam Essence Font) of

  1. Essence Font
  2. Mana Tea
  3. Vivify spam on players with Essence Font HoT
  4. Essence Font while Mana Tea is still active

There are 4 Essence Font entries, depending on how many double Mastery: Gust of Mists proccing spells are used on targets with the Essence Font HoT on them while it’s active. With Essence Font having a cooldown, Mastery will have ample time to shine with its double hits, giving us burst Single Target healing during group-wide damage.

This can be extended further into a pseudo burst healing “rotation”

  1. Build Sheilun’s Gift stacks (through the Effusive Mists trait) to a comfortable amount before damage.
  2. Cast Sheilun’s Gift so its cast time ends right as group damage lands so Whispers of Shaohao heals injured people.
  3. Cast Essence Font.
  4. Assess the situation for Essence Font HoT chasing; whether you need to full on go into the Mana Tea rotation, cast a few Vivifys at regular mana cost, or to hit players with Effuse for cheap burst healing.

Stat Changes

With Essence Font gaining a cooldown, more of our healing will be casts that have Mastery: Gust of Mists tied to it. As shown in the graph above, Mastery: Gust of Mists makes up a sizable portion of spells’ total healing. How that impacts overall weights will remain to be seen, as logs of this new playstyle need to be taken into account, especially with the Talent changes. There are theories, but nothing grounded in math to release.

For now, follow this guideline:

Intellect > Crit > Versatility = Haste > Mastery

Talent Changes

Refreshing Jade Wind, with its changes, is now a talent that can surpass Invoke Chi-Ji, the Red Crane on most raid fights, as you only need 4 casts of Refreshing Jade Wind over 3 minutes to surpass the raw healing of Invoke Chi-Ji, the Red Crane. With the mana reduction to the talent, it doesn’t significantly impact your mana over the course of a fight, making this talent much more appealing.

The only types of fights where Refreshing Jade Wind is worse are also fights where Invoke Chi-Ji, the Red Crane shines; spread fights, where, for whatever reason, Mistweavers cannot be with a stacked group of people taking damage. Summon Jade Serpent Statue is still an incredibly niche talent that won’t see much use unless a fight calls for a lot of Single Target healing.

Chi Wave‘s buff doesn’t make it better in either Dungeons or Raids.

Thunder Focus Tea Changes

It’s time to revisit what to spend Thunder Focus Tea on. Right now, the rule of thumb is to spend it on Renewing Mist for healing or Vivify for mana. In 7.2.5, with the buffs to Vivify and the change to Essence Font‘s Thunder Focus Tea augment, we now have 3 consistent ways to spend Thunder Focus Tea; for mana conservation, use it on Vivify; for more sustained healing, use it on Renewing Mist; for burst healing, use it on Essence Font.

Using Thunder Focus Tea on Essence Font will be something to look forward to, as it allows you to start targeting people one GCD faster than a regular Essence Font, giving you better reaction to incoming damage with Mastery: Gust of Mists double hits on low health targets faster.

Tier 20 Item Set Bonuses

Tier Priority

This tier bonus is definitely worth picking up (worth in iLvLs to come after Normal and Heroic logs have been compiled and entered into the spreadsheet). Follow this priority for acquiring tier pieces to complete it (higher pieces are better):

  1. Shoulders
  2. Back
  3. Chest
  4. Legs
  5. Hands
  6. Head

Tomb of Sargeras Recommended Gear

With “Best in Slot” lists being outdated thanks to Warforged/Titanforged, Tertiary Stats, and random sockets appearing on gear, only recommended gearing lists can be made.

Tomb Trinkets

Tomb of Sargeras brings with it 6 trinkets available to healers (all of which are subject to change with tuning hotfixes):

  • Barbaric Mindslaver – Heals more often the lower mana you are, this trinket is a very good all around healing trinket.
  • Charm of the Rising Tide – An on-use trinket that increases Haste by an amount for every second stood still, up to 10 stacks. Situationally useful, but other options are more readily available and useful.
  • Chalice of Moonlight – A stat proc trinket that changes between Critical Strike in the day (6:30 AM – 6:30 PM server) and Haste at night (6:30 PM – 6:30 AM server). How it will act in instances on Live remains to be seen, as Blizzard have been flipping how it acts with seemingly every PTR build. If raids are always set to day time for the Crit proc, or if it will accurately follow day/night cycle.
  • Sea Star of the Depthmother – Using Essence Font has a chance to place a buff on a nearby injured ally, healing them very rapidly for a very low amount. A very low amount.
  • Archive of Faith – Large single target healing trinket with a low cooldown. Very niche, but very good in that niche.
  • The Deceiver’s Grand Design – The best trinket HPS-wise in Tomb, but, due to having its effectiveness tied to Tank damage taken, you really only need one per group.
  1. Sea Star of the Depthmother
  2. Barbaric Mindslaver
  3. Chalice of Moonlight
  4. The Deceiver’s Grand Design
  5. Charm of the Rising Tide
  6. Archive of Faith

In 7.2.5, legendaries will be able to be upgraded to 970 iLvL with Stabilized Titan Essences. Depending on what you use your Mistweaver more for, the priority of upgrades will be slightly different.

Raid Legendary Upgrade Priority
  1. Velen’s Future Sight
  2. Prydaz, Xavaric’s Magnum Opus
  3. Ei’thas, Lunar Glides of Eramas
  4. Petrichor Lagniappe
  5. Shelter of Rin
  6. Leggings of the Black Flame
  7. Sephuz’s Secret
  8. Unison Spaulders
  9. Ovyd’s Winter Wrap
  10. Eye of Collidus the Warp-Watcher
  11. Sentinel’s Eternal Refuge
Dungeon Legendary Upgrade Priority
  1. Velen’s Future Sight
  2. Ovyd’s Winter Wrap
  3. Prydaz, Xavaric’s Magnum Opus
  4. Ei’thas, Lunar Glides of Eramas
  5. Sephuz’s Secret
  6. Shelter of Rin
  7. Unison Spaulders
  8. Leggings of the Black Flame
  9. Eye of Collidus the Warp-Watcher
  10. Petrichor Lagniappe
  11. Sentinel’s Eternal Refuge

There are two more legendaries being added to the current pool available to us:

Doorway to Nowhere gets better the more Essence Fonts are cast. However, even maximizing the amount of Essence Fonts every minute puts it firmly in the middle of the pack, on average. More than one Chi-Ji can be active at a time.

Soul of the Grandmaster (and Mist Wrap, to be honest) are both fairly weak in a raid. This legendary’s niche is where you’re able to use Lifecycles effectively, as it buffs Enveloping Mist‘s overall healing by 16.67%. But with the Tomb tier set reducing the mana cost of most of the Enveloping Mists we cast per minute, Lifecycles is devalued in terms of total mana saved.

Since the other two talents on the row are mana saving talents, Soul of the Grandmaster‘s effect is worthless in dungeons.
